Life is a journey!
And an exciting one at that! I have found that each chapter of my life, when I can step back and look at it objectively, is a microcosm of the macrocosm. Our journey with The Hub is no different.
About a year ago now, we began looking for a building where we could build the processing facility we were envisioning. Little did we know at that time, the Newport Station Elementary School was waiting for us to find it. We did and here we are. So, it began…the planning, design, demolition, reconstruction, continued planning, meeting people, building relationships…
This continues to be such an amazing journey. Lots of challenges that one might expect to find when working with a building that was built in 1963, and the systems that went along with it. We have learned about things I never thought I would have the opportunity to learn about. All while setting the groundwork to launch a business once we get the go ahead for the space.
The project is much bigger than we originally thought simply because we have the luxury of space…. 17000 sq. ft to be exact. We will be renting out some of that to accommodate businesses looking for room to build and grow. We have office, boardroom, and event space that will be available for community to rent. There is shipping and receiving through which we look forward to moving much local product. And we are building our production facility, which will house The Station Food Co. These doors will welcome local product, transform it by adding value, and sell it to Nova Scotia institutions, beginning with the school system.
We have been hard at work building business relationships with producers, equipment suppliers, customers, and certainly funders. We are so excited to have the opportunity to contribute to the Nova Scotia economy and health through The Hub.
